About the event
Indigo, which comes from the plant, is one of the oldest dyes used for coloring fabrics and is still used today to color blue jeans. Indigo was St. Augustine's first cash crop, traditionally known as “blue gold”. The unique characteristics of indigo dyeing make it easy to create wonderful resist patterns on fabric. In this class, we will create different patterns and students will take home swatches of fabric that show off their work.
All materials will be provided. Please feel free to bring in a t-shirt, tea towel, or other fabric item to dye if you would like to. Wear old clothes and shoes that can get stained - No matter how careful you are, you will get dye on you!
Instructor: JoAnn Mancuso
This class is mostly intended for adult learners, but older children who are able to successfully follow directions and safely complete the activity without distrubing the experience of other students are welcome. Please contact with any questions. Minors may NOT be left unattended.
